Ledger® Live: Login | Getting started™ with Ledger®

Step-by-step, friendly guide to install Ledger Live, connect your Ledger® device, and securely log in — with quick links and best-practice security tips.

Overview

Ledger® Live is the official desktop and mobile application for managing your Ledger hardware wallet (Ledger Nano S Plus, Ledger Nano X, and other Ledger® devices). This guide covers: downloading Ledger Live, creating or restoring a wallet, logging in (pairing your device), and essential security practices to keep your crypto safe.

Before you begin

  • Have your Ledger® device (Nano S Plus, Nano X) and its original USB cable ready.
  • Write down your 24-word recovery phrase in a secure place — never store it digitally.
  • Download Ledger Live only from the official site or trusted app stores.

1) Download & install Ledger® Live

Open the official Ledger website and choose Ledger Live for your platform (Windows / macOS / Linux) or install from the App Store / Google Play.
Run the installer and follow the on-screen steps. On mobile, install the Ledger Live app and grant required permissions.
When asked, allow firmware updates to be applied to your device — firmware updates are signed by Ledger and close security gaps.

2) Create a new wallet or restore an existing one

If you already have a Ledger® device with a setup, choose Restore device and enter your 24-word recovery phrase carefully. If this is a new device, follow the on-device prompts to create a PIN and write down your recovery phrase.

  • Never share your 24-word phrase — Ledger staff or apps will never ask for it.
  • Use metal backup solutions where possible for long-term durability.

3) Pairing & logging in to Ledger® Live

Ledger Live uses a secure USB (or Bluetooth on Nano X) connection to your device. The app does not hold your private keys — they remain safely stored on the hardware device.

  1. Open Ledger Live and select Get started > choose your device model.
  2. Connect your device via USB (or Bluetooth for Nano X) and unlock it with your PIN.
  3. Follow Ledger Live prompts to add accounts (Bitcoin, Ethereum, etc.). Ledger Live will fetch public account data — you must approve actions on the device.

Important: For any transaction, always verify the recipient address on the hardware device screen before confirming.

Security best practices

  • Always download Ledger Live from the official Ledger site or verified app stores.
  • Keep firmware and the Ledger Live app up to date.
  • Never enter your recovery phrase into a website, app, or search engine.
  • Use a strong PIN and consider passphrase features only if you understand their tradeoffs.
  • Use a metal seed backup for fire/water resistance.

Troubleshooting

Device not detected: try a different USB cable/port, make sure the device is unlocked, and try the Reset USB option in Ledger Live settings.
Bluetooth issues (Nano X): toggle Bluetooth on your phone and the device, and check pairing settings.
App shows "Install the app on your device": open the Manager in Ledger Live and install the blockchain app you want (Bitcoin, Ethereum, Solana, etc.).
